A week ago I was talking with my boyfriend about cartoons we used to watch when we were little kids. And I realised Tom's owner (From Tom and Jerry) was a sort of African american woman who never showed hes face in any of the episodes, now I wonder if it's discrimination, a way of protest against discrimination.... the fact she never showed her face is what makes me think of the reasons...
What do you think about it?
PS: as a complement I leave one of the episodes, which the woman is in.
Tom & jerry featured racial stereotypes, for example after explosions, the characters with blasted faces would ressembles stereotypical blacks, with large lips and bow-tied hair.
The producers called this woman, "Mammy two shoes" because they only drew her feet and her hands. This character was very polemic for many years because of the stereotype of black woman as a grumpy, fat and screaming person. Because of it the character was changed for a white woman, and just in the 1980's those episodes were relaunched.
