WHOF

WHOF, which stands for “wipe out homophobia on facebook”,  is a facebook page that has over 400,000 members from all over the world that support gay rights but most of all are against gay discrimination. Page members are welcome to share their personal stories and also to support each other. WHOF has become a huge gathering of LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transsexual) support from all over the world. They also educate people; a lot of members are straight people, parents dealing with their children’s coming out, friends of gay people or just people that think this cause is worth fighting for.

The main mission of WHOF is to erase homosexual hate pages on facebook, such as “I kill gays for fun” and “gay’s be kill”. WHOF also fights against suicide, it is a sad but true thing that researchers have found that suicide among lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender youth (LGBT) is comparatively higher than among the general population. According to some groups, this is linked to heterocentric cultures and institutionalized homophobia in some cases, including the use of LGBT people as a political wedge issue like in the contemporary efforts to halt legalizing same-sex marriages.

-Do you think gay people should be treated with equality?
-Do you think gay people should be able to adopt children and why?
-Do you think same-sex marriage should be legal and why?

Personally I think that we are all the same, no matter whom we love or where we come from we should all be treated equally. ¿When did loving someone and being loved back became a bad thing?

“Why is it that, as a culture, we are more comfortable seeing two men holding guns than holding hands?    ~Ernest Gaines

“No matter gay, straight or bi Lesbian, transgendered life I'm on the right track baby, I was born to survive”.  ~Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta (Lady Gaga)

“When I was in the military they gave me a medal for killing two men and a discharge for loving one”.        ~Leonard P. Matlovich

  1. I think this is a very good initiative in the struggle for rights and respect that everyone deserves. It is not necessary be gay to support the gay rights, it's about to be a human, we all deserve to be treated equally. Since when loving someone became a problem? :)

  2. This is an interesting topic Isa. I knew this page a few months ago. I can talk about my feelings and perceptions, so maybe it will not be as objective.
About your questions I think that homosexual people must be treated as equals, because they aren't "weird vermin", they just are free people like you and me and everybody. Tolerance is the most important characteristic in this type of things. I believe that it is as if we discriminated teen pregnancy, people with disabilities, and all the people that are different to us... and it is unfair. I don't remember when but there was a protest led by MOVILH (Homosexual Movement of Integration and Liberation), specifically about tolerance and Zamudio's case. They want to be treated like normal people and they are, so what’s the problem?
About adoption I agree, because in our times the typical family is not like 50 years ago, now in a family we can find a mother and her son, a father and his children, parents living with their children and being themselves parents. All of them can love and take care of their children, is not necessary a man and a woman to be a family, so being a gay couple and have children is not bad, at least for me.
About same-sex marriage I believe Chile is very delayed in that type of laws. Most of European countries have allowed it and recently Argentina, our neighbor, too. And what about Chile? Just protests and movements by social networks... I think that is a good idea, they deserve to live happy and we aren't nobody to prevent it.
    Greetings!

  3. I found really interesting this post...because I didn't know anything about this page....so I think that is really good that people create a facebook page to support equality...because these people deserves to be treated as any other member of the comumnity, with same rights.
Also is very important that governments have to do something abou it through the implementation of laws to protect their safety ...because of the discrimination
