Kony 2012
Kony 2012 is a documentary created by Invisible Children Inc. The
documentary promotes the charity’s "Stop Kony" movement. The driving
force behind this documentary is to expose Joseph Kony, a fugitive Ugandan
criminal, to the rest of the world and get him arrested by December 31, 2012.
Kony is the main leader of the religious movement called the Lord's
Resistance Army, that embarked on a campaign to establish a theocratic
government in Uganda
The video describes Kony's brutal guerrilla warfare tactics with his
rebel group Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) and the regions (northern Uganda, the
Democratic Republic of the Congo, and South Sudan) in which they have been
employed.
Joseph Kony is known for abducting children and separating them from their
families, forcing girls to be sexual slaves and boys to be soldiers and to kill
their own parents.
The documentary presents Jason Russell, who is a film director that
knows Jacob, a Ugandan boy that escaped from Kony and survived. Jason promises
that he will bring Kony to justice. and for that he needs American government
support.
Celebrities like Rihanna, Taylor Swift and Bill Gates support this
movement.
Some people believe that this video is another trick used to capture
world attention and to make the people give money to strangers and not for the
Ugandan people. Also this video would promote a possible military intervention
in central Africa the part of U.S.
I think this documentary is powerful and it demonstrates what may be
happening in other places of the world, but I don't think that we must buy the
Action Kit, something in this video is suspicious and I don't know why.
I invite you to watch it and think about this topic, do you think that
this movement has good intentions or is another American scam so they could
intervene in Africa?

ReplyDeleteWhen you decide to join one those advocacy groups like the Invisible Children Inc, there is a risk that people are gonna get ripped off, but there is also the risk that they help people in ways we never thought it could be possible.
ReplyDeleteI would advocate for helping no matter the results. In this particular case, The invisible Children Inc have received way too much media attention and they know that the world eyes are on them and will question every single decision they make regarding how money is spent. So, I guess that´s a good indicator that can ensure potential donors that money is going to be well invested.
This video moved me the first time I watched it...and the second one and the third one...but I think that it's absolutely incredible how this was like "hidden" this was happening since long time ago in Africa and nobody did anything about it, people did not know who Kony was. I don't believe that it's a scam, because any other country is free to "Help" so...and kony as the video said was recognized by the "international criminal court"-in Netherlands- as the most wanted criminal so...still now I'm doubting...
