Some months
ago we got all shocked by this video that shows some Mexicans little kids
subjected to a test that would show if they discriminate racially.
Unfortunately, they do. We can’t blame
them because they’re just kids and of course they don’t have a bad intention
about their comments and opinions. So we have to wonder who is the real
responsible about this discrimination; their parents, the media o the society
we live in?
On the
other hand, we must think on how we can combat the discrimination if even those
who are discriminated, in our case as Latin Americans, discriminate.
Can you think of an effective solution?

I have never seen that video until now. It impressed me a lot. Here we can see how can we affect kids. I think that the responsability can't be placed on just one factor only. I believe that in some level, media have a lot to do with it because whenever we see a comercial advertisment on TV of a happy family it tends to be people with fair skin, blue eyes and blond hair which is a strange thing because in Chile (for example) most people don't fit to that description. And whenever we see a propaganda of poverty in some country in the world, it comes to be that it is an african american child with a sad little face or something like that. So, unconsciously the image of poverty and sadness and in some way of certain bad things stays in our mind associated to that kind of people, and the image of welfare, happiness and success in life tends to be associated to fair skin people, which both are clearly stereotypes. Maybe that is why in USA and in the entire world the fact that president Obama was elected, caused so uproar. Only because he has an african american origin. Anyway, in my opinion the mentality would change the day that we can stop worship the beauty and its weird, mutable concepts and start admiring the intelligence, and values of respect, tolerance and friendship, all those things that you can find inside of people, once you get to know them and not prejudging by the color of anybody' skin.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion the responsible of that behaviour in children are their parents, why? because they are in charge of children's first socialization, and if those children discriminate is bucause thair parents weren't able to teach them about the diversity of our beautiful, colorful world :)
