Jeremy is a
song by Pearl Jam, with lyrics written by vocalist Eddie Vedder, who was
inspired in a true story about a 15-year-old boy named Jeremy Wade, who killed himself
in front of his classmates. The video music gets a lot
of attention for two reasons. The first reason is about the edition
of the video, which uses a technique like collage that shows fast images of
Eddie Vedder, recreation of the true story and also some messages. The second
reason is for showing strong images, which recreate in somehow that Jeremy Wade
lived in a cruel way. Even it shows the moment of his suicide. Due to this, the
video was censured in many countries.
The music
video message can be understood in different ways, but all of
them point out that depression leads people to suicide, it is caused
by not being part of a group, feeling lonely, or discriminated
against by your peers. In this video it is clear
that Jeremy suffered from constantly bullying, and that his
parents did not pay attention to him and how he was feeling.
The message has been sent to show a particular
fact that called Eddie Vedder’s attention when he saw it in the newspapers.
Besides to show the reasons that allow these events happen.
Héctor Vielma.
