This song was written by Eddie Vedder who is the vocalist of the band. It's a sad love song as he said in a Pearl Jam documentary: It is about first relationships and "letting go". I chose this song because it is full of emotions and makes you think that you don't really appreciate things (in this case love) until you lose it. It's a beautiful song and also surrounded by rumors and hidden meanings. One of them says that is a song about a girl who has an abortion without telling his boyfriend. Other people say that is a song about the death of someone beloved and the passing time without that person. However, all these meanings are no more than just rumors and speculations.
This song has no official video because of Eddie Vedder himself, who didn't want to make the video by personal reasons of not wanting to pass through the promotional process; at least, that was what I read. Nevertheless this unplugged version has all the power of this soulful song. The voice of the vocalist is simply amazing. It obviously doesn't have the message of certain well known songs about revolution, peace, and many other important topics but in some way, I think, it tells you or reminds you that you must appreciate and take care of love when you have it because you never know how much it's going to last, and such a thing has an importance its own.

I'm really not sure if in this video at the seventh line when he said: "how quick can the sun drop", he should have said: "I know she gave me all that se wore",(that's the original lyrics) he simply changed it or just made a mistake, anyway Eddie Vedder tends to improvise and change lyrics in songs everytime he sings live like he does with "yelow ledbetter". I'm keeping that version.
I like it when singer/songwriters hope every one will interpret their songs in their own particular way. There is a sad feeling to the song, I agree that it must be about letting go. A lot of people can easily relate to it. The singer can certainly brig a los of feeling to the words he sings. Although his voice is not particularly melodic and clear, it works well for this song. =)
